Challenge

The brief was to grow the whole business unit and certain sectors in particular – Oil & Gas, Engineering, Corporate, Central Government and Mining and Infrastructure.

Solution

Through my contribution on the UK Board, I directly influenced major improvements in service quality.

As Sales & Marketing Director, I closed the sale on DFiD and MoD Rapid Deployment outsourcing contracts, and directed the mobilisation for both these and an FCO outsourcing contract.

We set up an Oil & Gas business with its own General Manager in Aberdeen dedicated to serving this sector.

Having reviewed the operational delivery of insurance contracts, we exited those that were unprofitable.

I also ensured that global account management was put in place for the US Department of Defense, Oil & Gas globals, Insurance providers and Pharmaceutical clients.

Results

Total revenue increased by 19%, gross margin by 55% and gross operating profit by 84% over 18 months. During my tenure we successfully brought a series of new service and consultancy products to market.

Meanwhile, awareness of the International SOS brand grew through extensive networking and recognition as the company became the “professional speaker of choice” in industry forums for medical support and security intervention.
